what it looks like in xml

here are few things that are represented in mark up language. technically this would be xml and not html because i am creating my own tags. but i think anyone savvy in html can get them too. can you guess what they are? i'll post the answers in a couple of days

<cycle>28 days</cycle>     (by the way, this one has a double in it.)

<trip>     (this is a greatly simplified example)
<ul>
<li>get gas</li>
<li>get munchies</li>
<li>get music</li>
<li>go south</li>
<li>stay in hotel</li>
<li>go home</li>
</ul>
</trip>

<show>     (this could represent a couple of things)
<ul>
<li>drama</li>
<li>advertisement</li>
<li>gun battle</li>
<li>advertisement</li>
<li>car chase</li>
<li>advertisement</li>
<li>science stuff</li>
<li>advertisement</li>
<li>sexual tension</li>
<li>advertisement</li>
<li>conclusion</li>
</ul>
</show>

that is enough for now. i might post more if anyone actually tries to guess these.

friday brain fart

i have been swamped at work lately and have not had time to do any blogging. so today while i wait for the coffee to get ready, i thought i'd toss something up. it is going to be random stuff but then when have i not done things that way?

i work on the second floor of a building. the main atrium is open up to the third floor. i have to walk around the opening on the second floor to reach the office suite that i work in. on the first floor there is an office that has their receptionist sitting at a desk right beside their door and directly in front of a floor to ceiling window. i love this because every morning, i get a gratuitous cleveage shot as i walk in. she wear clothes are that tasteful but offer great cleavage shots from above. i hope she never stops working there.

the people i work with have a real hard time making up their minds. there are a group of "leads" that asked me to help them out with some workflow stuff that they do. i have to do the same stuff so we all got together and decided that it would be better if we didn't all try to do it. (what a novel concept). so i got *lucky* enough to be the one picked to this task for everyone. it involves assigning trouble tickets to various people so that the work gets done and nothing sits un-noticed for any length of time. i started it this week, tuesday to be exact. i come in to work this morning to find an email from one of their assistants saying that i wasn't doing it right for their group and he copied his boss. the email was worded in a way that indicated the boss had told the assistant to send it. why he couldn't send it is beyond me. the thing that really irks me about it is that i'm using the exact "rules" i was given from the boss to do the ticket assignments. this has nothing to do with me doing it wrong. it is all about him losing some control. and he was the one complaining the loudest about having to do this and how if i did it for him "it would save him lots of time so that he could get other things done". i sure hope he doesn't expect me to do him any more favors.

and to complete this post, i had sex with my wife last night. first time in about 2 months but it happened.

sorry for the smell

today is a rant, ramble and brain fart day

why is it that health nuts all push exercise as something that everyone should do? and insurance companies seem to incourage it too. but let me ask you these 2 questions.

  • how many people do you know that have injured themselves why exercising?
  • how many of those people sustained serious injuries?

now let me ask this question.

  • how many people do you know that have injured themselves while sitting on the couch watching television?

just saying ...

and another thing.
disclaimer: this is going to sound racist to some but believe me. i am not a racist. end disclaimer

i am sick and tired of being politically correct. it isn't just political correctness regarding a persons race (as you are thinking because of the disclaimer). it is about everything. and i blame one segment of the united states population for all of today's policital correctness mess. (and here is where the racism could be construed). when the african-american [*cringe*] had their identity crisis in the sixties and seventies, political correctness began. now, don't get me wrong. i don't think anyone should be calling people derogatory names. i am not going to list any here because then my blog will get flagged and i'll start getting all kinds of hate mail. but because they did not want to become just plain "americans" we are now stuck with having to be politically correct. if a person has legal citizenship in the united states and uganda, i'd be more than happy to call them an ugandan-american. or if they have citizen ship in mexico and the united states, mexican-american fits perfectly. but if you only have one legal citizenship, then you can not be a -american. and i also believe that you should be required to specify which country you have citizenship in is your primary residence so that we can use it first, i.e. american-mexican. and this should be limited to countries. africa is not a country so there should not be any african-americans. similarly religion, sexual preference is not allowed.

and while i am worked up about the whole political correctness stuff let me lay this one on you. i am a hetero sexual, god believing, non-catholic, non-baptist, non-episcopalian, non-jewish, man. i like sports but am not fanatical about them. i like music, movies, cooking and books. i should be allowed to act like that. gay men get to act gay and if i say something about it, people start yelling "hater" or accusing me of being a bigot or guilty of hate crimes. but if i say something about not following the ncaa basketball tournament people question my "manlyness". if i compliment a lady on her clothing and say something like "a pair of gold slingbacks would really dress up that outfit" people start thinking i'm gay. i can't start yelling "hater" or "hate crime".

i am getting sick and tired of being the one that has to be careful about what i say and do so that everyone else will leave me alone. i want to be able to hassle someone that has dyslexia when they misspell something in a chat room. they get to make fun of me. i want to be able to say "oh girl" to a woman that is wearing white before easter. i want to be able to openly ogle a woman that walks by in a short skirt, low cut top and 5-inch spike heels. i want to be myself.

all of the entries in the title are geek for 100. this is my 100th post. you would think it would be special. guess not. the tmi for today just didn't appeal to me. and i have been extremely busy at work lately so i haven't had a lot of time to post. so you are going to get a few rambling paragraphs from me today.

what makes a good cook? last week's tmi asked how good a cook we thought we are. i said 9.5 out of 10. it isn't because i'm a gourmet. it is because everything i have ever made was edible and at least one person enjoyed it. i might not use exotic sauces or ingredients, but i make food that is edible, filling and damn tasty. so i consider myself a damn good cook.

i added a couple of brain farts to the side bar.

when i was a kid i looked forward to christmas. now i dread it. i hate the way that it has become so commercialized and all about the gifts. i'm not going to get all religious on you but the reason for the season has been lost. and i honestly don't mind the whole gift giving thing but it has become such a hassle to get "the right" gift. and no one wants simple gifts anymore. honestly, as a kid i used to like getting a few new shirts. now, kids don't want anything that doesn't need batteries or a monthly payment to keep it working.

now, back to the title. can anyone identify the 4 number systems used?

UPDATE: 12/13/2007: roman numerals, binary (base 2), hexadecimal (base 16), octal (base 8)

TGIF?

why do people always say that? it is only 3 days until monday.

words can not describe

this is the first time in 4 days that i've been out of bed. and not in a good, long term sex way. actually that isn't true. i've been in/out of bed a lot over the last 4 days. but each trip was straight to the toilet. fever, body aches, nausea.

i'll get back to posting soon. and you're welcome. i love to share

brain fart

i decided to make a real effort at blogging. i want to post something every day. as part of it, i decided to change the look. wish me luck.

for today i'm going to explain why it is so difficult for me to blog. mainly because i have a rather boring "real" life and i tend to use the internet as my "virtual" life. i get to do things here that i can't do in real life. i really want to keep my virtual life secret from the people that know me in real life. but since my real life is so boring, if i started giving away too much about me, it would be fairly obvious to them who i am.

so i ask those of you that blog regularly, how much do the people from your real life know about your blogs? how do you keep them from knowing? i'm really curious and would love to talk to anyone that is a regular blogger about this. but not via comments on my blog. i'd really like to exchange email with you. so email me if you would be willing to discuss this with me.
